1st BIG-MAP AI Workshop – 24 & 25 January 2022

24/01/2022 - 25/01/2022

BATTERY 2030+ projects (especially BIG-MAP) targets the development of AI toolkits for accelerating the
development of new sustainable high-performance batteries. As these models are being developed, we aim
to continually train the BATTERY 2030+ members in effectively using those and integrate AI models in their
research practice. To that goal, we will arrange a series of AI workshops where young researchers involved in
the AI development will train others through lectures and hands on tutorials.
The 1st workshop (January 2022 edition) will be conducted fully online over two days. In the morning there will
be three oral presentations in a single track to be attended by all and after lunch, three parallel hands on
session ran by respective oral presenters and additional tutors. In the afternoon people are divided into three
groups to learn one tool in-depth and how to use it. Each oral presentation is a 30-40 min lecture followed by
a discussion totaling 60 min.

Workshop plan:

24 January 2022 – Plenary presentation session I:
9AM – 10AM Ioan-Bogdan Magdău (Cambridge University) Machine learning potentials
(moderator Prof. Anatole von Lilienfeld)
10AM – 11AM Marc Duquesnoy (Université de Picardie Jules Verne) AI applied to
battery manufacturing mesoscale data (moderator Prof. Tejs Vegge)
11AM – 12PM Jonas Busk (Technical University of Denmark) Uncertainty and sensitivity
with surrogate models (moderator Prof. Wolfgang Wenzel)
1PM – 4PM Hands on tutorial (choice on one from three)
Tutorial I: Machine learning potential building by Ioan and team
Tutorial II: Optimize battery manufacturing with AI by Marc and team
Tutorial III: Sensitivity analysis with surrogates by Jonas and team

25 January 2022 – Plenary presentation session II:
9AM – 10AM Eibar Flores (Technical University of Denmark) Discovering governing equations from
data with AI (moderator Prof. Patrik Johansson)
10AM – 11AM Anssi Laukkanen (VTT; HIDDEN project) Multi-scale Multi-physics models (moderator
Prof. Alejandro Franco)
11AM – 12PM Fuzhan Rahmanian (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) Orchestrating distributed
materials acceleration platforms (moderator Henning Lorrmann)
1PM – 4PM Hands on tutorial (choice on one from three)
Tutorial IV: Sensitivity analysis with surrogates by Jonas and team
Tutorial V: Multi-physics modelling by Anssi and team
Tutorial VI: Laboratory automation and orchestration by Fuzhan and team

Plenary presentation session I/II and Tutorial session I/II/III/IV/V/VI will have separate teams/discord links sent
to those who sign up before the event.

Each participant can sign up for up for two oral and two tutorial (one for each day) sessions.
